A cool and rainy start to the day but things cleared up for us to take advantage of Bald Head Island NC. This is a small island community. The island really didn't become populated until the 70's and now has quite a few home/condo developments and a very nice marina. Year-round population is around 200 but we were told by many locals that the summers are very busy. Transportation is limited to golf carts, shuttle service and bikes. There are passenger ferries to the island every half hour during the day. They have a very active Nature Conservancy, which we visited. They do a lot of research regarding sea turtles. A great side trip!
