This morning we moved the boat closer to the protected anchorage, and took the dingy to shore. We had a nice hike to Topaz lake and enjoyed the beauty of the rose granite lined lake. Back on Huckster we traveled 15 miles to Kilarney. When we got to the marina, the winds were gusting to 15 knots and the current was 3 knots. We had 4 failed attempts to get into our slip but finally managed it. (Unfortunately Huckster got a nice long scratch along its side from a steel plate at the corner of the dock:( Kevin had a scotch and I had a whiskey when we finally got settled. We were supposed to leave the next day but decided to recuperate an additional day.

Day 2 - Killarney is a small town but it is beautiful. Our slip is across from the town on St. George Island, we took our dingy across and had a short walk around the town. Kevin had read about a short hike on St. George Island so we decided at 4pm to go for a hike. We had dinner reservations at a lodge in Killarney for 7:00PM and thought we'd have plenty of time to get back. It turned out that the hike was not a 1.5 Kilometer hike. It ended up being 8 kilometers and was 3 hours long. Luckily we had cell service and I was able to make our reservations for 8pm. It was a beautiful hike. The trail was not so well marked and we had to back track a couple of times but we went through beautiful marshes and beaches. We saw lots of bear tracks and bear poop, and whenever we saw fresh bear poop, I made lots of noise so that our presence was known!
