Again nice weather as we traveled to Georgetown SC. The ICW was, at times, somewhat difficult to navigate because it narrowed significantly due to rocky shoaling. Once we entered the Waccamaw River it was much wider and there was little development to contribute to shoaling. The river was very scenic with moss draped trees and we were back to coffee colored waterways. Georgetown is a great lovely city with grand old homes. In the 1800's, when most of the county was thriving rice plantations, it was the most wealthiest area in the country. There is a steel manufacturing plant and paper mill across from out marina. The smell from the plants is often referred to as being" the smell of money" or the "smell of bread and butter." Such a genteel way of referring to air pollution:)

We enjoyed a dinner with Bev (an old rowing friend of mine) and her husband while we were here. They recently moved to Pawley's Island.
