We are in Canada!

We had a delightful trip across Lake Ontario. Clear skies and calm seas throughout our voyage. We are settled into the Kingston Municipal Marina. Clearing customs was a breeze. It was just a short phone call.

After clearing customs we spent a bit of time contacting the Canadian Park System to figure out if there was enough water for us to go up the Rideau Canal instead of the St. Lawerence River. We got an OK to go up the Rideau. It is supposed to be a very scenic route and we are looking forward to it. We spent the balance of the day wandering around the city and working out the necessary permits for going on the canal.

Today we took an Uber to the first lock on the canal to get the actual canal permit and some charts to serve as back-up in case we have software issues. Then we went for a longish bike ride and visited the Kingston Prison. Kind of a weird tourist thing to do but it was interesting. The prison was originally opened in 1833 and added on to over the years. It closed in the early 2000s. The tour guide was well spoken and there were 4 different stops along the way where former prison guides told their stories.

The afternoon was spent planning next stops along the canal.
