Today we arrived to the Green Turtle Cay Marina, our home for the next 10 days. My sister Elaine and her husband Ron, will join us for a week. The island is more inhabited than any other we’ve been to. It has about 400 full-time residents and many are descendants of the British Loyalists that departed after the Revolutionary War. Three families seemed to have a prominent place in the island history. The Roberts, the Currys and the Lowes. These three families were also very involved in Key West.

There are a few marinas/resorts on the island and a small yacht club. The town is very cute and seems to have a European/Caribbean feel.

Our marina seems to have the best restaurant on the island and has a pool. The whole island was without electricity on and off for the weeks before we came and there were sporadic power outages while we were there.

There are numerous pretty beaches and some good shelling, especially for Sea biscuits. These are dome shaped sand dollar looking things with a star fish pattern on top. I think they start as a sea urchin type of thing, covered in short burgundy needles. We found some conchs and a few coral fans. Also saw sharks, rays, the the heads of the green turtles.

We had a great week exploring the island with Ron and Elaine. We also took a day trip to Manjack Cay.
