This morning we checked again with the nearest lock master and he checked the water levels, which were 17’ air clearance and we were good to go.

We also checked the radar and saw a storm front coming through in the afternoon. We then made plans to tie-up to the lock wall at the base of lock 5 and be secure if the weather got bad. We left around 7:30.

We were the only southbound boat in the locks we traveled through (locks 12-5) Each lock was open for us when we approached, so traveling was faster than we anticipated.

There was one fixed bridge that we passed along the way that was a tight squeeze. “Holy Shit” was whispered by the captain as we went under that one.

We considered continuing but the nearest lock was 1.3 hours away and we decided not to push our luck.

We displaced some fishermen as we tied up to the wall below lock 5 but they were good about making space for us.

The fishermen that were the closest to us, blasting music, were thorough bred horse handlers from the Saratoga race track:)
