We closed the ends of our Triangle loop to Montreal today! Nature celebrated with us and gave us a beautiful, cool day to travel.

We started the day traversing the last 4 locks in the Champlain canal. We contacted the lock master at Lock 4 and he said the fixed bridge between locks 3-4 had only 15.5 clearance and he’d contact Lock 3 to lower the pool level. Our trip to Lock 4 was about 1.3 hours and by the time we got there they had lowered the canal so that the clearance at the bridge was 17’. We were good to go. It was tight as we went under the bridge and we both let out a sigh of relief when we were through.

At locks 2 and 1, we had to wait a bit because they were trying to keep an invasive fish from going north into Lake Champlain. They were doing this by a rinse and repeat at each lock. Basically they filled and emptied each lock 2 times before they let boats enter the locks. They were hoping that the force of the fast emptying of the locks would flush the fish down from the lock entrances and they wouldn’t come in the locks. It is yet to be seen if it is effective.

After leaving Champlain lock 1, we closed our triangle loop and began retracing our trip back home.

We are in a marina that we stayed in on our way up. A week after we were first at the marina, they had a micro burst or small tornado that hit the marina. The dock we had been tied to had been torn away from the other docks and is still under repair/replacing. Luckily no one was injured and minor damage was done to the boats. Geez!

We had a nice calm night.
