Traveling in the Hudson is so relaxing as compared to being out in the Atlantic. Even with rainy weather the water is relatively calm. Today’s voyage was pretty much the same as far as what we’ve been experiencing as of late: overcast, rain, overcast rain. We got to see a few landmarks along the way West Point, Bannerman Arsenal and lots of scenic vistas.

We arrived in Poughkeepsie in rather heavy rain but soon things cleared up and we walked along the river and into the city center of Poughkeepsie. I have to say, the city is pretty economically depressed and we saw quite a few strung out and homeless individuals. It does look like there are people are trying to give it a go there, establishing ethnic restaurants, coffeehouses and stores but there remains lots of vacant properties.

We went to a small community market and all the folks were friendly but there weren’t many customers. We spent what cash we had on hand and I wish we had brought more to help all the vendors.
