We tried to be first in line for the rest of the Chambly locks (5) and failed to notify the lock master at lock 4 that we were on our way to him. We were reprimanded for not following protocol (all the other locks followed the first come - first served routine.) We were forgiven and we were let in first. It was totally understandable though, because the canal is narrow and the locks can only fit our boat and a mid-sized boat.

It took about 4 hours to finish all the locks. The journey was pretty with nicely kept houses along side the canal and a very busy bike path that ran the course of the canal. We were a source of entertainment for very chatty bikers who stopped and watched/talked with us ad we went through our locking efforts.

Once we exited the locks, we re-entered the Richelieu River. The river was crazy busy with pleasure boats, pontoon boats, and ski-doos. Everyone was taking advantage of the great weather and the first weekend of the Quebec Constructor’s 2 week holiday.

At the end of the day we anchored in Lake Champlain along side about 30 other boats. Everyone that was swimming in the water was staying close to their boats and we found out why when we got in - there was a pretty strong current that could easily take you for a ride. It was late afternoon when we anchored and by 7 pm we were the only boat left at the anchorage.
